Chicken breed
Wyandotte
Dense feathering and a rose comb make the Wyandotte one of the better breeds for cold winters. Blue Laced Red is popular, but blue does not breed true: chicks from blue parents come out blue, black and splash.
Hatch Index lists 13 varieties of Wyandotte from 6 hatcheries, and 10 are in stock today. The cheapest sexed pullet you can order now is Black Laced Silver Wyandotte from Cackle Hatchery at $5.99. Straight run starts at $4.49.
