Chicken breed

Ameraucana

A true Ameraucana lays blue eggs and has a beard, muffs, a pea comb and slate legs. Plenty of birds sold under the name, and nearly everything sold as an "Americana", are Easter Eggers, which can lay green as well as blue. Both make good layers; the difference matters if you want to show or breed true.

Hatch Index lists 8 varieties of Ameraucana from 6 hatcheries, and 7 are in stock today. The cheapest sexed pullet you can order now is Ameraucana from Townline Hatchery at $6.89. Straight run starts at $5.85.
